Dr. Ron Jurgensen comes from a diverse background, and is a self made man, having been raised in the suburbs of Long Beach, California. In a ground breaking book by Dr. Stanley Mutunga, “No Longer Forgotten”, Dr. Jurgensen was quoted as saying “I never knew why I became a dentist until I started doing relief missions. Today, instead of looking forward to a two week vacation sitting on a beach somewhere with an “umbrella drink”, I now look forward to going into unreached areas and providing immediate relief from pain.”
When he is not overseas working with the poorest of the poor, he is involved locally with support organizations here in the U.S. The public may not know Dr. Jurgensen, but the homeless community does. They know where to go to get relief from dental pain. Once asked, “Why don’t you help people closer to home?”, Dr. Jurgensen always answers “I like to go where the need is the greatest”.
In addition to attaining two undergraduate degrees in psychology from UCLA, Dr. Jurgensen holds a doctoral degree and a post doctoral degree at Columbia Presbyterian Dental School. He also holds a Masters Degree in Intercultural studies from Fuller Theological Seminary.
