“A missionary came to me over 30 years ago and said “Ron, I need you. I need you to help me figure out a problem we are having in Northern Luzon, in the Philippines.” The people were suffering from massive tooth decay without any other health problems. “So that was my first trip. And we discovered that the children and adults had a heavy diet of chewing sugar cane for the nutritional benefits. We educated them on how to clean their teeth so they could continue to reap the benefits of the sugar cane without destroying their teeth.”
“The gratitude that people show you for everything you do for them with no expectation of receiving anything in return is motivating in the sense that you want to keep doing it even more. It was life changing. I had the soul satisfaction of helping people for the pure joy of it. ”
Since that first trip, Dr. Jurgensen travels each year at his own expense to areas of the world in the greatest need. “For the past 30 years, I have extracted teeth, delivered 26 babies, and performed a variety of surgical procedures for the poorest of the poor in over 20 countries on 4 continents.”
